How to cut a funny highlight reel from your own videos
Upload your videos to Vizard Agent and ask for the funny bits. Vizard Agent transcribes every clip, looks at the frames around each candidate moment, measures the sound level where the reaction is, and cuts them into one reel with a title card, an end card and music.
What is the short version?
Everyone has a folder of clips with two good seconds each. Turning them into a reel means watching all of them again, which is exactly the task nobody does — and it is the only part of the job that is genuinely tedious.
- Go to Vizard Agent and upload the videos.
- Say you want the funny moments, and how long the reel should be.
- Say the shape and whether you want titles and music.
What do you need before you start?
The clips and a length. Vizard Agent finds the moments itself from what is said and what is shown, so a brief this loose genuinely works — and if you do have a favourite moment, naming it costs one sentence and guarantees it survives the cut.
- The clips. Any number, any length, unsorted. Vizard Agent inspects all of them.
- The length. Thirty seconds is a good target for a feed.
- The shape. Vertical for a phone, wide if it is going somewhere else.
- Any moment you insist on. Say it in words; Vizard Agent will find it in the transcript.
- Whether the audio is the joke. If the funny part is what someone says, keep the original sound.
What do you type into Vizard Agent?
Ask loosely and let Vizard Agent choose. This is one of the few briefs where being vague is fine, because the decision you would otherwise make — which moments are funny — is the one it makes by reading and watching every clip.
Prompt
Variants worth knowing:
- Name a theme. "All the moments where something goes wrong" is a tighter and often better reel.
- Keep the voices. Say so if the humour is in what people say rather than what happens.
- Titles between clips. Ask for them and Vizard Agent writes short cards to set up each moment.
What does Vizard Agent actually do?
Here is the order Vizard Agent worked in on a real funny compilation. It reads and watches everything before it picks anything — and it also measures, because a reaction that is funny to watch is often the one that is loud.
- Checks the properties of every uploaded video and downloads them.
- Extracts frames and looks at the short clips one group at a time.
- Watches the longer video in the same way.
- Checks the audio tracks and the transcription tool.
- Transcribes every clip and locates the word-timing files.
- Extracts word timings so a moment can be cut at a specific word.
- Previews the frames around the funny candidates to confirm what is happening.
- Measures the sound level at those moments rather than judging by ear.
- Generates a title card, an end card and sound effects, then searches for music.
Step 8 is the one nobody would think to describe. Vizard Agent measured the audio at each candidate moment, which is how it distinguishes a genuine reaction from a quiet aside that only reads as funny in the transcript.
What does the result look like?
From the run this page is written from, probed on the delivered file: 1080x1920, H.264, 50fps, 34.28 seconds, AAC audio. Vertical and thirty-four seconds, cut from several unsorted clips, with a title card, an end card, sound effects and music, delivered as one file.
Ask for a longer version and Vizard Agent extends from the moments it already ranked rather than searching the footage again.
Thirty seconds is about five or six moments. Beyond that the reel stops being highlights and starts being the folder it came from, which is the thing you were trying to avoid.
How long it takes was not measured separately here. Comparable work runs a median of 28 to 38 minutes end to end, and the upper quartile is several times the median. Across all projects the median cost by tier is Flash 47, Pro 55, Max 242, Ultra 263 credits.
When does this not work well?
Funny is a judgement, and it is the one judgement that does not transfer between people. Vizard Agent picks well from what the transcript and the frames show, and a moment that is hilarious because of what happened the day before is invisible to anyone who was not there.
- Inside jokes do not read. If the humour needs context, the reel needs a title card explaining it.
- The best moment may be unusable. Bad audio, a swear word, someone's face — all real reasons a moment cannot go in.
- People in your clips did not agree to a reel. Friends filmed casually are one thing; publishing them is another.
- Very short clips give little to cut. Two seconds of reaction still needs a second of setup before it, or the moment lands with nothing behind it.
- Order matters more than selection. The strongest moment goes first or last, and Vizard Agent will re-sequence on request.
- Loud is not the same as funny. Vizard Agent measures the levels as one signal among several, and you may still disagree with a pick.
- A reel is not a channel. One good compilation comes out of a year of clips, and the second one is thinner unless you keep filming.
How do you fix a result that came back wrong?
Name the moment or the clip. Vizard Agent keeps the transcripts, the word timings, the level measurements and the cards, so dropping a moment or extending one is a change to the assembly rather than a fresh pass over your footage.
- "Cut the third moment, it does not land." Removed and the rest re-paced.
- "Start that clip a second earlier." A new in-point at the exact word.
- "Different music, keep the cut." A track swap only.
How does Vizard Agent compare to doing it yourself?
By hand this is watching everything twice — once to find the moments and once to check you did not miss any — then cutting. The cutting takes twenty minutes. The watching takes the evening, which is why the folder stays a folder.
| By hand | Vizard Agent | |
|---|---|---|
| Finding the moments | Watch it all, twice | Transcribed and reviewed |
| Judging a reaction | By ear | Levels measured at each candidate |
| Cutting precisely | Scrub to the frame | Cut at the word |
| Trying a different order | Re-edit | Say which moment moves |
Common questions
Do I need to say which bits are funny? No. Vizard Agent reads and watches everything and chooses. Name a moment if you want it guaranteed.
Can it handle a mix of long and short clips? Yes. It inspects each one and treats a long video as a source to search rather than a clip to include.
Will it keep the original audio? Yes, where the joke is in what was said. Say so if you want the voices kept throughout.
Can it add title cards? Yes, and they are worth it when a moment needs a line of setup.
How long should a reel be? Around thirty seconds, which is five or six moments. These formats lose people quickly once the best one has already passed.
Can it find a specific moment I remember? Yes. Describe it in words and Vizard Agent searches the transcripts rather than making you scrub for it.
Can I get a wide version too? Yes. Vizard Agent re-frames each moment rather than cropping the vertical cut.
