How to introduce a new character into a video series you already run

The existing episodes are the specification. The whole first third of the work is study, of the reference video, the previous project's images and the earlier deliverables, before a single new frame is generated. The first version was good and the second was right, and finding that out meant building it rather than debating it. In the session behind this article it:

When does this not work well?
A series builds recognition slowly, and one mismatched episode spends a good deal of it. A generated character will drift with each new episode, and if the existing episodes are inconsistent there's no single style to match. Two characters in one shot is harder than one, and twelve seconds introduces a character; it doesn't explain a topic.
