How to make a highlight reel from sports footage

What is the short version?

A sports highlight reel is a search problem wearing an editing costume. Two hours of a youth game contains maybe eight moments that anyone outside the family wants to see, and finding them means watching all two hours. That is the work, and it is why the footage from most seasons never leaves the phone.

What do you need before you start?

What does Vizard Agent actually do?

Here is the order Vizard Agent worked in on a real request for a baseball reel. This run is instructive for an unusual reason: the footage was never attached, so what you are reading is what happens when Vizard Agent has nothing of yours to work with.

1. Checks the workspace for any uploaded baseball videos or files.
2. Checks the working directory and environment to be sure it is looking in the right place.
3. Checks the project's storage bucket directly for files that might have arrived but not been attached.
4. Lists the available asset tools to see what else could produce the video.
5. Reads the stock search tool's instructions.
6. Searches the stock library for youth baseball clips, then again for a good swing.
7. Downloads the selected clips concurrently and builds a reel from them.

Vizard Agent looked in three places for your footage before giving up on it. What it delivered was a competent baseball reel of somebody else's child, which is the correct fallback and almost certainly not what was wanted.

What does the result look like?

From that run, probed on the delivered file: 1920x1080, H.264, 30fps, 27.54 seconds, AAC audio. Wide, half a minute, ready to share — and built entirely from stock, because that was all Vizard Agent had to work with once it had looked in three places for the game footage and found none of it.

When does this not work well?

Sports footage is filmed from a distance, and distance is what makes this category harder than it looks. Vizard Agent can find the action reliably; connecting the action to a specific child in a wide shot is where the difficulty lives.

• Footage that was never attached. Vizard Agent falls back to stock rather than failing, which is helpful in some jobs and misleading in this one. Check the file uploaded before you send the prompt.
• Wide shots with many similar players. Same uniform, same size, no visible number. Say where your player usually stands, or accept that some plays will be missed.
• Phone footage from the stands. Shake, zoom hunting and a chain-link fence in front of the lens all reduce what can be read from the picture.
• Sports where the ball is the story. In football or hockey the ball or puck is often a few pixels. Tell Vizard Agent to follow your player rather than the play.
• It is not a scout. Vizard Agent finds moments involving your player. Judging whether a play was good is yours.

How do you fix a result that came back wrong?

Point at the timestamp or the play. Vizard Agent keeps the footage analysis and the assembled reel, so adding a missed moment or dropping one is a change to the selection rather than another pass over the whole game.

• "You missed the catch in the fourth." Give the rough time and Vizard Agent adds it.
• "That is not my kid." Say how to tell them apart and it re-selects.
• "Hold each play a second longer." A timing change, no re-analysis.
