Gold text and an orange planet are far closer in pixel values than they look to a person, so the job is finding a rule that separates them. The only reliable test is measuring the pixels that should not have moved. In the session behind this article it:

When does this not work well?
Separating one colour from another that sits close to it has a real mathematical limit. If the text and a planet match exactly, no key divides them. Compression gives letters a fringe of in-between values, motion blur smears a moving element across the threshold, and semi-transparent glows take on whatever is behind them. On a long video, a rule tested on ten frames is not tested.
