How to remove burnt-in text when painting it out does not work

Text burnt into a clip is only removable when what sits behind it can be reconstructed. Over a still wall it can. Over a moving calendar it cannot, and the useful question becomes how to cover it so that nobody reads it as a patch.

What does Vizard Agent actually do?

Here is the order Vizard Agent worked in on a real vertical advert built from supplied clips, both of which had text burnt into them. The two faults get completely different treatments, which is the point of the list.

  1. Inspects the scene around the overlay to see what is actually there.
  2. Views a contact sheet of the overlay's timing.
  3. Pinpoints when the overlay starts so only its duration is cleaned.
  4. Removes it by cutting before it appears and retiming what follows.
  5. Inspects the other text's placement across the opening.
  6. Tests a localised removal of that title.
  7. Tests a clean-plate patch over the moving area.
  8. Retests the clean plate against the correct source clip.
  9. Tests a patch taken from the same frame and moved with the picture.
  10. Tests a feathered soft cleanup over the title band.

  12. Strengthens the gradient until the title is fully hidden.
  13. Extends the gradient to cover the whole affected area.
  14. Checks the opening and the transitions on the finished render.

Step four is the answer people skip past. If the burnt-in text arrives partway through a shot, the cheapest repair is not to remove it at all — it is to end the shot a moment earlier and retime what comes next, which costs a second and leaves the picture untouched.

Steps six to thirteen are one ladder, tried in order of how invisible each rung would be. Reconstruction is best when it works; over a moving background it produces smearing, so the sequence ends on a covering treatment that reads as a deliberate design element rather than as a repair.

What does the result look like?

Two fixes that look nothing alike. One scene is simply shorter, ending before its overlay ever appears, and the other carries a gradient across the band where the title was — dark enough to hide it, soft enough to look intended.

Neither reads as a patch, which is the only standard that matters.

When does this not work well?

Removing text is limited entirely by what sits behind it. A busy, moving, high-contrast background gives reconstruction nothing to work from, and there are frames where covering is the only honest option available and covering is not acceptable to you.

How do you fix a result that came back wrong?
