How to start a pulled quote early enough that it still makes sense

What do you type into Vizard Agent?
Quote the line, name the missing thing and say the length is fixed. A timecode tells Vizard Agent where to look but not what is wrong there, and "start this bit earlier" only invites a guess about how much earlier is enough. Without a fixed length, the obvious fix is simply to make the piece longer.

A pulled quote can be broken in two ways. One is grammatical: it starts mid-sentence, which is easy to see. The other is referential: the sentence is whole, but the thing it is about was never said on screen. When does this not work well?
Some lines can't be rescued by an earlier in-point. If the context is scattered across ten minutes, or was never said out loud at all, no amount of backing up will find it, and the honest options are a caption or a different quote. A fixed length with no slack leaves nothing to trade, and context that is dull is correct but unusable.
Common questions
Is this not just the same as not cutting mid-sentence? No. A line can be a whole sentence and still refer to something you never heard.
How much earlier should it start? As far as the reference. Vizard Agent finds it rather than adding a fixed few seconds.
