How to add the rest of your footage to a video that is already finished
Upload the missing footage and tell Vizard Agent where the delivered edit should hand over to it. What does Vizard Agent actually do?
The hard part is the single second where the two halves meet. A delivered edit almost never ends on a sentence boundary and the new file overlaps it slightly, so a naive join replays a word: audible, obvious and invisible on a waveform. The fix comes from a word-level transcript, not by ear. In the session behind this article it:
- Probed the new file against the current cut of a talk whose owner had uploaded only the first part, and looked at the handover point.
- Transcribed the missing section, encoded it in short chunks to match the delivered format and built its graphics in the existing style.
- Cut the delivered edit at the handover point, assembled the new ending with punch-ins, titles and music, and joined the two into one file.
- Checked the frames either side of the seam, then listened to a slice around it and found a word playing twice across the join.
- Got word-level timings for both sides and trimmed to the start of the first word that should survive, a shade over half a second.
- Trimmed a further fraction of a second so the first new sentence started clean, and confirmed in the transcript that the join was one continuous sentence.
When does this not work well?
The two halves have to be the same recording. When the new file comes from a different camera, day or microphone, the join stops being a timing problem and becomes a matching problem, a longer job with a less certain ending. And with no overlap at all, a missing word can't be trimmed back in.
