How to get rid of black bars that are baked into your footage
Ask Vizard Agent to find the active picture area before it reframes anything. A file's dimensions describe the container, not the image, so it detects where the real picture sits inside the frame, reads a full-resolution frame to confirm the edges, and crops to that first — otherwise the reframe treats the bars as part of the shot.

A downloaded clip, an old export, a screen recording of a player: all of them can arrive as a 16:9 file containing a 4:3 picture with black painted around it. Reframe that and you get bars inside bars.

What do you need before you start?
Only the clips, though it helps to say if you suspect the problem. Vizard Agent checks the picture rather than the metadata, because a file's stated dimensions have almost nothing to do with where the image actually is inside the frame.
- The source clips. Especially old or downloaded ones.
- Your target format. Vertical, square, wide.
- Whether the bars are everywhere. Some clips only start with them.
- Whether they are truly black. Some are dark grey or tinted.
- What else is in the frame. A player interface, for instance.
What do you type into Vizard Agent?
Ask for detection rather than for cropping. If you name a crop yourself you are guessing at the edges, and being eight pixels out leaves a thin dark line along one side that shows up on every platform.

What does Vizard Agent actually do?
Here is the approach Vizard Agent takes across several real edits where the sources arrived already letterboxed. The pattern is the same every time: measure the frame, look at it, crop to the real picture, and only then do the job you actually asked for.
- Probes each source for its stated dimensions.
- Detects the active video area inside the frame.
- Reads a raw frame at full resolution to check the edges.
- Checks the first second separately.
- Measures the exact bar widths.
- Notices when the bars are not pure black.

Step three is not redundant with step two. Automatic detection finds an edge; looking at the frame is what catches the case where the "bar" is actually a dark part of the shot, and cropping it would cut into the picture.
Step four exists because some sources are only letterboxed at the start — a title card in a different ratio, or a fade from black — and a detection run on the opening frames measures the wrong thing for the whole clip.
Step six catches the version of this that survives everything else. Bars that are dark grey, or tinted by compression, are not caught by anything looking for pure black, so Vizard Agent measures the edge rather than testing for a colour.
Step eight is where the saved work shows up. Reframing from the cropped picture means the vertical crop is choosing from the whole image rather than from an image with a quarter of its height painted out, which is usually the difference between a usable crop and a cramped one.
What does the result look like?
Footage whose frame is entirely picture, which then reframes to vertical or square exactly the way you expected it to. There is no thin dark line down one side, and no shot sitting in a little box inside your own layout.
Vizard Agent also tells you what it cropped from each clip, which matters when one of them turns out to be a different ratio from the rest of the set.
When does this not work well?
Cropping to the picture changes the aspect ratio of the clip, and sometimes that is not what you want at all. It also cannot recover anything Vizard Agent did not find: the bars replaced the image when the file was made, they are not sitting on top of it.
- The bars replaced real picture. It is gone, not hidden.
- Mixed ratios in one edit. Cropping makes them differ more.
- A deliberate letterbox look. It is a style, not a fault.
- Bars that change mid-clip. They need per-section handling.
- Very low resolution sources. Cropping costs pixels you need.
How do you fix a result that came back wrong?
Say what you can still see at the edge of the frame. Because Vizard Agent measured the crop rather than guessing at it, a note about a line that survived usually means the bar was not quite the colour the detection expected to find.
- "There is still a line on the left." A tinted bar edge.
- "It cropped into the picture." The edge was misread.
- "Only one clip looks different." It had a different ratio.
- "I wanted the letterbox." Vizard Agent leaves it alone.
How does Vizard Agent compare to doing it yourself?
By hand the dimensions in the file get trusted, the clip gets reframed, and the bars are discovered in the finished export. The fix at that point is a crop applied to everything, which damages the clips that never had bars.

Common questions
Why does the file say 1080p? Because that is the container. Vizard Agent looks at the picture inside it.
Can it check a whole folder? Yes. Vizard Agent reports the active area per clip.
