How to make a vlog from footage full of failed takes

What is the short version?

Self-shot footage is mostly not usable footage at all. Every clip starts with somebody walking into position and ends with them reaching back toward the camera, and somewhere in the middle of that is the bit you actually meant to keep.

What does Vizard Agent actually do?

Here is the order Vizard Agent worked in on a real vlog cut entirely from unedited footage. The bulk of the work is reading rather than cutting: eight overview sheets covering every single clip, all of them reviewed, before anything at all is chosen.

  1. Parses the list of raw input media and downloads it locally.

An eight-to-twelve minute vlog in which none of the setup appears: no hands over the lens, no walking into frame, no abandoned starts, no shake at the ends — just the takes that worked, in order, cut together.

The clips this was built from measure 2336x1080 at 30fps, one of them running 17 seconds. That mixture of very short clips and longer ones is what self-shot footage looks like, and reconciling their dimensions is part of the job.

When does this not work well?

Removing the unusable parts leaves behind whatever was usable, and sometimes there is a great deal less of that than the file count suggests. These are the cases where Vizard Agent hands back a shorter video than you were expecting.

How do you fix a result that came back wrong?

Say what was kept that should not have been, or what got lost. Vizard Agent keeps all the overview sheets, the probe results and the transcription tests, so a section can be recut without re-reading every file again.

How does Vizard Agent compare to doing it yourself?

Should I trim the clips first? No. Vizard Agent uses the discarded parts to recognise where a take begins.
