How to make fundraising shorts from interview footage
Upload your interview footage and any branded overlays to Vizard Agent and describe the campaign. Vizard Agent transcribes the interview to find the moments that carry the appeal, inspects your overlay frame by frame, and checks whether it has a real transparency channel before building anything on top of it.
What is the short version?
A fundraising short is one person saying one true thing, cut tight, with an ask at the end. The material is almost always an interview that runs far too long, and the work is finding the thirty seconds inside it that would make a stranger act.
- Go to Vizard Agent and upload the interview and your overlays.
- Say what the campaign is and what you are asking people to do.
- Say how many shorts you want and how long each should be.
What do you need before you start?
The interview and your campaign assets. Vizard Agent reads the interview for content rather than watching it for action, so clear audio matters more than clean framing here — and the branded elements you already use are worth uploading rather than describing.
- The interview footage. Long is fine. Vizard Agent transcribes it and works from what was said.
- Your outro or lower-third overlays. Upload the files. Vizard Agent inspects them properly, including whether they carry transparency.
- The campaign and the organisation. Who this is for, what the money does, what the specific ask is.
- How many and how long. Two shorts at twenty-five seconds is a typical set for a campaign.
- Whether this is for review or for release. Say if you need to approve before anything is finished.
What do you type into Vizard Agent?
Name the campaign and the ask. Vizard Agent finds the strong moments in the interview on its own, and what it cannot infer from footage is which of several true things this particular campaign is asking people to do this month — an appeal for a water project and an appeal for the same organisation's schools work use different parts of the same interview.
Prompt
Variants worth knowing:
- One story, two lengths. A fifteen-second cut for feeds and a thirty for the site.
- Subtitles in a second language. Say which, and whether both should appear.
- No overlay. If the branding is applied later by someone else, say so and Vizard Agent leaves clean space.
What does Vizard Agent actually do?
Here is the order Vizard Agent worked in on a real pair of fundraising shorts. The second half is entirely about the overlay, which is the part most people assume will just work and which is where these jobs usually break.
- Checks the workspace and the project record for previous assets.
- Probes the uploaded files for duration, format and layout.
- Transcribes the interview to find the moments that carry the appeal.
- Extracts representative frames from both the interview and the overlay.
- Lists the extracted frames to confirm they were produced.
- Combines them into a single grid image and views them all at once.
- Views the tiled interview and overlay together to understand how they will sit.
- Probes the outro overlay's pixel format to check for a real alpha channel.
- Extracts the overlay's frames at two per second to inspect its animation sequence.
Steps 8 and 9 are the ones that save the job. An overlay exported without transparency composites as a black rectangle, and finding that out before building is worth a great deal more than finding out after.
What does the result look like?
From the run this page is written from, probed on the delivered file: 1080x1920, H.264, 30fps, 24.0 seconds, AAC audio. Vertical and within the twenty-two to twenty-eight second window that was requested, with the branded outro composited at the end.
Ask for the second short in the same conversation and Vizard Agent cuts it from the same transcript and the same overlay inspection, so it costs a fraction of the first.
It is not instant, and this category was not separately measured. Comparable work runs a median of 28 to 38 minutes end to end. Across all projects the median cost by tier is Flash 47, Pro 55, Max 242, Ultra 263 credits.
When does this not work well?
Fundraising material carries obligations that ordinary marketing does not, and most of the limits here are about honesty rather than picture quality. Vizard Agent will cut whatever is in the footage into whatever shape you ask for, and none of the judgements below are ones it can make on your behalf.
- Compression can change meaning. Cutting a long answer to twenty-five seconds can make someone say something they did not quite say. Read the transcript against the cut before you release it.
- Consent has a scope. Someone who agreed to be interviewed for a report may not have agreed to appear in a fundraising appeal. That is a question for you, not for the edit.
- Beneficiaries deserve particular care. Footage of people receiving help carries a dignity question that no editing decision resolves on your behalf.
- Overlays without transparency will look wrong. Vizard Agent checks and will tell you. Export with an alpha channel where you can.
- A campaign short ages quickly. The ask changes when the target is met or the season turns, and a video that keeps circulating with last quarter's number attached is a problem no edit prevents.
- Impact claims are yours. Anything the short says about what a donation achieves is your organisation's statement.
How do you fix a result that came back wrong?
Quote the line or name the moment. Vizard Agent keeps the transcript, the frame grids and the overlay inspection, so a re-cut selects different words from an interview it has already read rather than watching the footage again.
- "Use the part about the well, not the opening." Re-cut from the same transcript.
- "The overlay sits too high." A placement change against the frames it already inspected.
- "Too abrupt at the end." A timing adjustment before the outro.
How does Vizard Agent compare to doing it yourself?
By hand this is watching a forty-minute interview with a notepad, marking the three usable passages, cutting them, then discovering the outro overlay you were given has a black background. The last part is a specific and familiar kind of afternoon.
| By hand | Vizard Agent | |
|---|---|---|
| Finding the moments | Watch it all, take notes | Transcribes and reads |
| Checking the overlay | Composite it and see | Probes for alpha first |
| A second short | Start the search again | Same transcript, new selection |
| Approval rounds | Re-export each time | Say what changes |
Common questions
How long should a fundraising short be? Twenty to thirty seconds holds one story and one ask cleanly. Vizard Agent will make something longer, and past that point most viewers have already decided.
Can it add subtitles? Yes, and for this format they are worth having, since most of these are watched without sound.
Will it use my branded outro? Yes. Upload it and Vizard Agent inspects it properly before compositing, including whether it has transparency.
Can it work from several interviews? Yes. Upload them together and Vizard Agent transcribes all of them, which makes it possible to build one short from the strongest moment across several conversations.
Can I get a version for review before anything is finished? Yes. Say "review only" and Vizard Agent delivers something to approve rather than to publish.
