Vizard Agent

How to stop an action edit swapping who is attacking whom

Last updated 2026-09-17 · 8 min read

Tell Vizard Agent which character is attacking and which is receiving, and ask it to find any shot where that relationship reverses or where one fighter hands off to a different-looking person. Those two faults — the attacker swap and the identity handoff — are what make an action sequence impossible to follow, and both are individual shots that can simply be removed.

What is the short version?

An action sequence is a claim about who is doing what to whom. Cut in a shot from the other side of the line and the punch now travels the other way, and the viewer stops following the fight and starts watching shapes move.

  1. Tell Vizard Agent who is attacking and who is receiving.
  2. Ask it to find and remove the shots where that reverses.
  3. Ask it to build the sequence in movement phases.

What do you need before you start?

The footage and a clear statement of the two roles. Vizard Agent can see two people fighting; whether one of them is meant to be winning at this point in the sequence is an editorial fact only you have.

What do you type into Vizard Agent?

Use the word "swap" when you brief Vizard Agent. It names one specific fault rather than a general impression of untidiness, and it tells Vizard Agent to look for reversals between neighbouring shots rather than judging each shot on its own merits.

Prompt

Build this as one continuous fight where the man in black is attacking throughout. Take out any shot where the attacker and defender are swapped, and any shot where a fighter hands off to someone who does not look like him. Keep the screen direction consistent so the punches travel the same way across the cuts.

Variants worth knowing:

What does Vizard Agent actually do?

Here is the sequence on a real fight cut rebuilt for continuity. Most of the fixes are removals rather than rebuilds — the sequence was nearly right, and two or three individual shots were doing all the damage.

  1. Rebuilds the master from the coverage that keeps the setting consistent.
  2. Checks the whole arc on a contact sheet before delivery.
  3. Renders a version with the attacker-switch shot removed.
  4. Checks that deliverable's frames and its audio.
  5. Removes a charge-up frame so the next hit lands without an identity handoff.
  6. Renders a continuity-safe version without the mismatched plate.
  7. Watches the uploaded cut for remaining handoffs and repetition.
  8. Rebuilds the longer version around distinct movement phases.
  9. Checks the phases separate clearly on the contact sheet.
  10. Gathers cleaner coverage and maps each candidate back to its source file.

Step five is the subtle one. An identity handoff does not need a different actor — a single frame where the face is obscured or the costume reads differently is enough for the viewer to lose track of who landed the blow.

Step eight is a structural answer to a continuity problem. Grouping the sequence into phases — a boxing passage, then a grappling passage — gives the viewer a frame of reference, so a small inconsistency inside a phase is far less disorienting.

Step ten is worth the trouble when the coverage is thin. If every usable angle breaks the line, no amount of careful cutting will fix it, and the honest move is to get shots that do not.

What does the result look like?

A fight you can follow. The blows travel consistently, the same person is on the same side of the frame from shot to shot, and Vizard Agent tells you which shots it removed and why each one was breaking the sequence.

When does this not work well?

Sometimes there is nothing left. If most of the coverage is from the wrong side, removing the offending shots leaves a sequence too short to work, and the choice is between a shorter honest cut and getting more footage.

How do you fix a result that came back wrong?

Point Vizard Agent at the moment you lost track. That is far more useful than trying to name the fault yourself, because the shot that confused you is usually the one immediately after the shot that actually broke the line.

How does Vizard Agent compare to doing it yourself?

By hand you cut the fight for rhythm, because rhythm is what you can feel while editing, and the geography breaks somewhere in the middle without announcing itself. Watching it back you know something is wrong and cannot say which shot did it.

Common questions

What is an attacker swap? A shot where the roles reverse, so the blow travels the other way. Vizard Agent hunts for those.

What is an identity handoff? A shot where a fighter reads as a different person. Vizard Agent flags those too.

Do I have to name the fighters? Describe them well enough to tell apart. Vizard Agent works from that.

Can it fix a swap without removing the shot? Sometimes by mirroring, though that flips any text. Vizard Agent will say.

What if the coverage is all from one side? Then there is nothing to fix. Vizard Agent only flags angles that cross the line.

Does this apply to sport? Yes. Vizard Agent applies it to any two-party action where direction carries meaning.

Why do phases help? They give the viewer a frame of reference, so Vizard Agent structures long sequences that way.

Can it check a finished edit? Yes. Send the cut and Vizard Agent reports the swaps and handoffs in it.

What about generated fights? More prone to handoffs, because each shot is generated separately.

Will removing shots shorten it? Yes. Vizard Agent tells you by how much before committing.

Can it suggest replacement shots? Yes, from the coverage, mapped back to the exact source file and timestamp.

What if I want it disorienting? Say so. This is a rule worth breaking deliberately, not by accident.

Does the audio need changing? Usually not, though Vizard Agent may re-time the impacts after a removal.

How do I describe what I saw? Name the moment you lost track. That is enough for Vizard Agent to find it.
